Owen Wilson and Alan Ritchson star in the new Angel action film Runner. Rodrigo Santoro joins them with his new villain transformation. In a story where the three characters share the same purpose they take us through an adrenaline packed ride with grief, wit, and frustrations. All under Scott Waugh as the director of this film. 

The Synopsis 

The story follows a former soldier who is thrown into a brutal race against time when a critical medical delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel. With betrayal closing in from every side, he must survive the chase and deliver his cargo before an innocent child runs out of time.

Owen Wilson is a Texan native. One of three siblings who are also actors, Luke and Andrew. Wilson grew up in a household that encouraged the art of creating and while in high school he found his interest in acting. While attending University of Texas at Austin. The place where he first met Wes Anderson and created the short film Bottle Rockets and later was made as a full feature film. Anderson as a director and co-writer. Owen starred as a lead actor and co-wrote. A story Luke Wilson also took part in. 

The Brazilian actor, Rodrigo Santoro is known for his versatile roles. He is a chameleon making each part different from the rest. Santoro’s first taste of popularity came while playing in Brazilian telenovelas. The year of 1996 was a big year, internationally. With his portrayal of the king of Persia, “Xerxes” in the big screen hit 300 and also took over on the small screen with the classic series, Lost. Since then he  has stayed busy between international projects. Less than a month ago he was seen in the Brazilian film, Corrida Dos Bichos.

The filmmaker Scott Waugh is not your usual director, producer. He also holds recognition for his background in the stunt world. It can’t be too surprising being the son of stuntman Fred Waugh, who doubled and  coordinated Nicholas Hammond for his role in the 1970s The Amazing Spider-Man series. Adding to being the younger sibling of stuntman Fred Waugh. This factors to his influence in the way he directs action films, adding that natural element. Some of those examples have been seen in Act of Valor, Need for Speed and The Expandables 3. 

With the release of Runner, Angel Studio held a press day and I was lucky to take part in it. I was connected with Owen Wilson, Scott Waugh and Rodrigo Santoro via Zoom. Waugh discussed getting to direct the yin yang duo. While Wilson expressed his enjoyment for action films and getting to work in this one. Santoro spoke about getting to play another villain that is not at the fullest. 

Runner is now in theaters
