Fox is hard at work at bringing us a whole new take on the classic film, Home Alone, and no, it isn’t a standard remake we’ve come to expect in today’s day and age. Nope, according to Deadline, this new project is called Stoned Alone, and as of right now, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is attached to produce the film.

As one would expect from the title, Stoned Alone is an R-rated riff on the decades-old concept of a boy finding himself fighting off burglars with horrifically dangerous booby traps. The script is from Gentlemen Lobsters writers Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, who wrote the script from Fox exec Matt Reilly.

Here is the synopsis provided by Deadline:

“It centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”

Given the R-rated nature of the story, I’m predicting plenty of stoner jokers, but more importantly, I’m expecting these booby traps to essentially mutilate the burglars as the film goes on. One of the big unspoken deals about the original Home Alone films was how dangerous Kevin McAllister really was, and how dead the Wet Bandits would be had the film been restricted by the same laws of physics that apply to the real world.
