Ryan Reynolds Shares Original Deadpool Costume Test

Deadpool was a film that was many years in the making. In fact, so long did that first movie take to get made that as of this year — a mere two years after the first one’s release, we’re a full decade from its overall inception. Reynolds was initially attached to a potential feature film, but was later brought on to introduce the character in the maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Years passed, and it wasn’t until 2014 when the CG test footage was leaked online that the project actually gained momentum. Now, on the heels of Deadpool 2‘s release, actor Ryan Reynolds has posted a couple of photos from a more innocent time.

As you can see, this is an early costume test, likely either weeks or months before the actual production of the first film. The costume is likely hot off the presses and has yet to be dirtied up for the sake of production. However, apart from the need to discolor it somewhat, it looks like it’s pretty darn close to the look we ended up with in both films.

Of course, this is likely because of just how much inspiration they took from the comic book iteration of the character. So long as you’re faithful to that, there’s really no need to make huge sweeping change like they did in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
