Whether or not you were a fan of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, we can all agree that the video Sad Affleck was absolutely hilarious. Riffing off the end of The Graduate, featuring Dustin Hoffman and Katherine Ross, not so happy with their abrupt decision and their “happy ending” as one would expect, Sad Affleck was also set to the morose tones of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence.’ If, for some reason, you missed that internet sensation last year, check it out now:
Now, the day after the interview with Sony’s Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige concerning Sony’s Venom and Silver & Black films being a part of the same universe as Spider-Man: Homecoming, Feige has gotten the Sad Affleck treatment. This time, there is the twist of a comic book style internal monologue, as Pascal talks and talks and talks about Sony’s Spider-Man plans. That creepy Kevin Feige smile they cut to at the end kills me! So great. Even before he got The Graduate treatment, you could read Feige’s pained expressions in the original interview. Feige looked uncomfortable, and then surprised, as Pascal announced a plan he perhaps would have rather kept secret, like the majority of Marvel’s plans post-Infinity War. The addition of Simon & Garfunkel drives home the sadness and jealously the President of Marvel Studios must feel, not having complete control of the character that he called “the jewel in the crown” of Marvel.
