Who are the true villains of Multiverse of Madness? Whilst he has to play coy a little, Sam Raimi recently did his best to answer that question in a recent interview with Fandango. Both the trailer and some online rumors have pointed at Wanda being the true villain of the movie. However that is hardly clear as a bell and there is certainly lots we don’t know about the MCU’s next movie.

Here is what Raimi had to say.

“Well, there’s iterations of our characters throughout the multiverse. So, if I were to say Strange … I’m not really supposed to answer this question, but I might be saying altered Strange. Same with Wanda and Mordo. But I would say, at different times, all of the above.”

That is an interesting answer and whilst trailer have shown us many Strange variants, it’s interesting to know there will also be Wanda variants in the movie. Earlier on in the interview Raimi confirmed this detail.

“Yes. The movie is a journey into the multiverse, so you do see different iterations of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, and even Lizzie Olsen’s character of Wanda Maximoff. So, the actors have to play that. It’s a great challenge for them and great fun to direct them playing these altered versions of themselves.”

And of course the variants don’t stop there. There was one variant question which Rami said he was unable to answer. Was that Patrick Stewart’s voice in the trailer? Raimi’s response,

“I couldn’t promise you that Patrick Stewart’s in the picture. That’s all that Marvel will let me say.”

I guess he doesn’t have to? After all, that was indeed Stewart’s voice and if Marvel approved that trailer then they want us to know this. Never mind the leaked pre-vis, nor the vague answers given by Stewart himself.

So who are the true villains of Multiverse of Madness? I guess we are just going to have to wait and find out for ourselves?
