By the time we first met Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the first Iron Man movie over 10 years ago, he was already the director of SHIELD and seemed to have his eyes and ears on everything from day one. But Captain Marvel which hits theaters in less than a week see’s Jackson playing Nick Fury over a decade earlier when he is a paper pusher, with two eyes and less awareness of the craziness around him in the MCU.
LRM recently had the chance to attend the press conference for Captain Marvel and Jackson was asked how Fury is different in this movie, here is the response form the veteran actor.
“Oh, you know, sort of a kinder, gentler, not so cynical world-weary, chip-on-the-shoulder Nick Fury. Um. Who hadn’t met anyone from another universe just yet and sort of looking at the crazy lady, trying to figure out why she thinks she’s an alien [LAUGHTER] and what all that means and, ah… it’s kind of… kind of fun to not be the all-knowing, you know, angry, ah… persuader that Nick Fury always is and — And you know, even… even more refreshing to have two eyes, so I don’t have to cover one eye while I was learning [LAUGHTER] my lines.”

From the trailers so far I really want to see this version of Nick Fury and I’m sure we will find out a lot about how he became the man we met first in Iron Man when this whole thing first started. I wonder what Jackson in 2009 would have said about the success of the MCU since those more humble beginnings.
