Samuel L. Jackson wants a Mace Windu series on Disney+, but I’m more in the ‘no thanks’ camp on this one. The last we saw Mace Windu he had his arm cut off by Anakin Skywalker and was blasted out of a very high building with Force Lightning by Darth Sidious. I think honestly everyone has always just assumed he’s dead.
However Jackson has always insisted Windu is alive. Not because he’s been told this by someone at Lucasfilm, but just because he believes it to be true himself. Well Jackson spoke to Empire Online recently and he reiterated Windu is alive and that’s he’s up for any kind of series or chance to play that character again.
‘For the new issue of Empire – celebrating 25 years of the Star Wars prequels – we fired off a few questions about the galaxy far, far away to the man himself, and he responded with a series of brief, emphatic messages. Most notably, he had three words to say on Mace Windu’s death scene: “HE’S NOT DEAD!!!” That’s that settled then. Two more words sure to stoke fans’ imaginations? On the subject of what he would want to do in a Mace Windu-centric Disney+ series, Jackson responded: “EVERYTHING YES!!” So there you have it: Samuel L. Jackson wants a Mace Windu show as much as you do.’
Thing is, I don’t think I do want this. Star Wars has a death issue where far too many character are coming back from the dead. Which then has the effect of reducing the stakes, or breaks the reality of the world building. Therefore I’d rather just that Windu died that day in the Senate from a combination blow from Vader and Sidious.

If it had to happen? I mean, like I’m told by Lucasfilm it’s happening and it can either be good because I helped it or put up with what is written. Well, there are certain possibilities. For a start I think a movie would work better than a series, and it would not be a movie starring SLJ as Mace Windu. For me, I’d make a Darth Vader movie and have Mace Windu turn up as the antagonist. Set it within 2-3 years of Revenge of the Sith and have Mace show up causing trouble. Vader is dispatched to hunt him and kill him, and he succeeds. That’s a movie fans would watch and it would have almost zero effect on what comes later.
If it has to be a Star Wars series, then I know budget is an issue. Ergo, I’d instead have Windu trying to run away from the Empire, possibly losing his powers or struggling to control them due to a mental break. However, if it was written by me, that ends up a dark story that doesn’t have a happy ending for the former Jedi Master. Those are however only if the option to leave him dead is off the table. That would always be my first choice as a fan.
