Sandstorm Comics Makes A Splash On The Global Stage With “Storm The Block” Event

Sandstorm Comics, made its American debut at Comic-Con International in San Diego last month, marking a significant step in the organization’s mission to elevate the Middle East’s presence in the global entertainment industry. Founded and led by Mo Abedin, an Emirati industry leader and lifelong comic book creator, Sandstorm Comics aims to establish Abu Dhabi as a hub for comics and pop culture enthusiasts, offering unique opportunities to local talent while captivating a global audience.

Sandstorm Comics has officially unveiled its inaugural industry event, “Storm the Block,” scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi from December 8th to 10th, 2023. This event promises to be a groundbreaking celebration of comics, animation, influencers, and creatives from around the world.Mo Abedin, expressed his excitement, stating:

“When we set out to create our own event, we knew it had to be something that represented not only the vibrance of the region today but an early look into the convergence of culture and art as we see it tomorrow, through the lens of our aspirations for Sandstorm. We believe that Storm the Block will be something that is not only unlike anything people have seen before here in Abu Dhabi, but the world at large; a true cross-section of the greatest talent in comics, influencers of global culture, and art from anywhere and everywhere.”

As part of the event’s attractions, Sandstorm Comics invites comic book enthusiasts and creators to submit their projects for consideration for development through the studio’s international network of talent. Submissions can be made at sandstormcomics.com/submissions.

The star-studded guest list for “Storm the Block” includes luminaries from the comic book world such as Bernard Chang from Marvel and DC, Chase Conley known for works like “The Boondocks” and “X-Men 97,” and Riccardo Federici. Notably, multiple artists from Superani, the globally acclaimed artist studio and collective, will also be present. Other distinguished guests include Sean “Cheeks” Galloway, Coran Kizer Stone (Kizerilla), Ron Marz (Green Lantern), Belén Ortega (Batman, The Joker), Gabriel Picolo (Teen Titans: Beast Boy), and Whyt Manga (Apple Black). Several renowned US-based publishers, including Cryptozoic, DSTLRY, Mad Cave, Top Cow, and more, will be in attendance. Additionally, world-renowned Japanese retailer Kinokuniya will curate a special selection of books, stationery, and more for attendees.

In anticipation of “Storm the Block,” Sandstorm Comics will release preview issues of their first 13 comic books, created in collaboration with local authors and renowned international artists. The event aims to offer a one-of-a-kind experience for a global audience, blending the best of comic fandom with the vibrant city of Abu Dhabi.
