Amazon Prime has announced they will be going back to production for El Presidente season two this month.
El Presidente is based on the true story of the “FIFA Gate” corruption scandal in 2015. The first South American mob, soccer mob. During the month of May seven FIFA officials were arrested right before attending the 65th FIFA Congress in Zurich. They were scheduled to attend the FIFA president election. Later a raid took place at the CONCACAF Miami headquarters. Shortly after Jack Warmer and marketing executive Alejandro Bursaco turned themselves in and two other FIFA officials were arrested in December. This International news encouraged other countries to open criminal investigations for other FIFA officials.
The first season introduced Sergio Jadue (Andrés Parra, “Pablo Escobar: El Pátron del Mal”), the director of a small soccer club in Chile who ends up being the head of the Chilean soccer association. With the abundance of power he becomes the protege to the soccer godfather, Julio Grondona (Luis Margani, “Crane World”). Little does he know he was a helpful source to the FBI’s downfall of the biggest scheme in the soccer sport.
The El Presidente series was created by the Academy Award-winning screenwriter Armando Bo (BirdMan) and is returning for this new season with eight episodes
