Secret Invasion Finale Rated At 13% On RT – No One Liked The Ending

Well, it seems I was not alone and pretty much no one liked the ending of Secret Invasion as the finale is currently rated at 13% on RT.

Well, it seems I was not alone and pretty much no one liked the ending of Secret Invasion as the finale is currently rated at 13% on RT. The overwhelming discourse I’m seeing online, from fans who enjoyed the show, like me, was that the ending was fumbled badly. Given my own review published yesterday,(related section below) It seems obvious I agree.

I’ll also point out that this article will get in to full spoilers for Secret Invasion. Therefore, be warned if you’ve not caught the finale yet. Though, based on this articles content, you may not be missing anything.

Main Gripes

So what are the issues that fans have with this finale? Let me put it this way. If someone had asked me to pick a likely but not great ending for the show after Episode 4, I likely would have come up with something similar to what we got. Secret Invasion had been a spy thriller with a healthy dose of paranoia. Therefore, to have an ending which ignores that tone and simplifies the plot down to a CGI fight between two overpowered Skrulls, just didn’t work for viewers.

I’ve seen feedback from fans that said the final 10 minutes, of the President and the human race reacting badly to Skrulls, was a more interesting premise than anything else that happened in the finale. I have to agree with that, and I’d have preferred to see Gravik killed by his followers in Episode 5. Have Episode 6 be Fury and Giah dealing with the fall out from the Skrull invasion attempt being public knowledge.

Then we have the actual CGI fight itself between Gravik and Giah. Both already had some super enhanced abilities. However, for some reason I can’t quite fathom, the team at Marvel decided to create the Harvest and make the show about Gravik looking to make himself more powerful than any single Avenger.

Fans have been pointing out all the inconsistencies in this approach. Namely the heroes who’s DNA should provide no trace of their powers. Or the fact the hero/villain was not even present during the Battle for Earth (Endgame finale). Then add in the visual cue’s to each character shown and there are even more issues. Like why would Drax’s DNA also bring over his tattoo’s? Why would Ebony Maw’s DNA also have his rings appear on Gravik’s fingers? Fans notice these details, and they make no sense.

Finally the fact that Giah is now so powerful it’s ridiculous and you know Marvel doesn’t have some grand plan to have OP Giah do something in the future. This character now has the powers of every single Avenger and villain that took part in Endgame. Marvel is already struggling with giving Captain Marvel interesting enemies to fight, theoretically Giah is stronger still. Though apparently those OP powers didn’t help Gravik survive one super blast. Another inconsistency.

Another Disappointment from Marvel on Disney+

Ultimately, Secret Invasion was a good show until the final two episodes when the finale was set up and executed. It almost feels like Secret Invasion 1-4 was one show and then the last two were a different Marvel project. The story could have been wrapped up much more satisfactorily by abandoning the Harvest plot and writing an interesting ending. Like I said above, killing off Gravik in Episode 5 with his own people and still having the extreme reaction of the President, placing Fury back into ‘protect Skrull mode’ would have worked far better for me.

A lot of this echo’s my own review from yesterday. However, this is what I’m hearing from fans online and the RT ratings speak for themselves. It seems no one liked the ending of Secret Invasion.

So Secret Invasion currently rated at 13% on RT and online it seems no one liked the ending. How did Marvel manage to mess up the MCU this badly in such a short space of time? As always, share your thoughts below.
