Shazam Star Zachary Levi Blames The Critics And Toxic Fans For Fury Of The Gods Flop

Fury of the Gods was a box office flop, now Shazam star Zachary Levi blames the critics and some toxic fans for the failure. Hmm, I’m not sure about that one? However, as I’ve yet to see Fury of the Gods, because I didn’t like Shazam, I can only report what Levi says. You readers who have watched the movie will of course have your own opinions on why the movie failed so hard.

Here is what Levi had to say across his time recently appearing on The FilmUp Podcast.

“The audience score is still quite good,” he says, “but the critics’ score was very oddly and perplexingly low, and people were insanely unkind. I’ve been a part of things, and as much as I wish they were good, I know they’re okay. I know that they miss a lot. And I’m not saying Shazam! Fury of the Gods is some perfect, Orson Welles-like masterpiece, but it’s a good darn movie.”

For context the critics score for Fury of the Gods on RT was 49%, whereas the audience score was 86%. However, audience scores are regularly higher than critics scores for comic books movies.

Levi then went on to talk about the toxic part of the fanbase.

“I think even just the world, from the first movie to the second movie, the world has shifted so much. Social media has shifted so much. Hate, online hate and haters and trolls, and factions and all that has just gotten more galvanized in its toxicity.”

“I think there are people who genuinely, unfortunately, want to destroy certain projects because they don’t like them, or they don’t like me, or they don’t like other people involved in them or whatever.”

Interesting position to take, and without watching the movie yet I can’t come on here and use my own opinions to back up or argue against what Levi says. Perhaps there were just a lot of viewers like me who didn’t care for the first one? However, I don’t think that’s the case as here at LRM/GenreVerse I was one of the few who didn’t like Shazam.

What do you think of his comments as Shazam star Zachary Levi blames the critics and toxic fans for Fury Of The Gods Flopping? Thoughts below as always.
