According to various trades, the Sgt. Rock film, starring Colin Farrell is now cancelled at Warner Bros. Giving credit where it’s due the first person I saw make this claim was scooper MTTSH, then quickly follow by The Wrap. Now we have THR and Deadline saying the same thing. Though the reason for cancellation still seems a little up in the air and different trades say different things.

Sgt. Rock, written by Justin Kuritzkes and directed by Luca Guadagnino was in pre-production in the U.K.

“It came down to the project’s scheduling needs of shooting outdoors.” say THR. Though they also add “Another source raised the possibility that Guadagnino remained untested in the realm of action movies, and even though the budget was in the $70 million range, a paltry sum for comic book movies, higher-ups may have wavered in their confidence.”

However, Deadline said this, “shooting this summer was untenable, as the team would have had to rush through prep to hit the right weather conditions at the right time.”

They also point out how far along this all was, “Guadagnino was scouting locations last week and that the studio was far down the line with Alien: Romulus breakout David Jonsson to join Farrell.”

I would have figured a delay rather than a cancellation would be in order if scheduling was the issue. Some very early reports were saying delayed and then things quickly escalated to cancelled. Oh well, I guess we’ll see if this one ever gets resurrected or not down the line?

What do you think of the news Sgt. Rock starring Colin Farrell is now cancelled at Warner Bros.? Thoughts below as always.
