Remember that big Star Trek 3 rumor I reported on yesterday? The one about there being a scene written for the film that would require actors William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy to reunite onscreen as Kirk and Spock? Well, the wildfire created by that rumor reached critical mass throughout the web and has all ready garnered a response from both director Roberto Orci and Shatner, himself.
So what are they saying?
Orci wouldn’t confirm or deny it, which tends to mean it’s true. But he basically adds the caveat that such a thing could still get cut as the script continues to evolve. Here’s the director, and co-writer, of Star Trek 3 in his own words:
“Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”
Meanwhile, Shatner took to twitter in, what sounds like, a statement that he hadn’t been contacted about it yet but that it’s not out of the realm of possibility. This would make sense, as the script is still in somewhat early stages, and therefore no formal offer would be made until things were more concrete.
Let's talk ST. I don't know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it's just rhetoric to cause hype.

The actor is probably still a little prickly about the chatter, considering he was once going to have a cameo in the rebooted franchise’s first film in a scene that was cut before it ever got shot.
So the possibility remains, folks. Do you think Shatner’s scene will survive the cut this time?
