Shazam – New Synopsis Hits For the Upcoming DCEU Movie

April will see the release of Shazam in theaters from WB/DC and whilst we have had a trailer for some time now, we still don’t know a great deal about the movie outside of that trailer.

Shazam will follow the adventures of Billy Batson as he is given super powers by a wizard, those powers turning him into a fully grown superhero with amazing abilities. Of course, inside Billy is still just a kid and this set up should prove to be a fun ride when the movie finally releases.

Now we have an official synopsis for the movie courtesy of Comic Book Movie, check it out below.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).

I’ll admit that while the premise sounds like good fun, this movie could easily fall into one big giant cliché if it is not handled correctly. The balance between a kid with super powers and then that kid having to fight a real sinister threat could be jarring if not handled with care by all involved.

Aquaman interests me more than Shazam right now, but at the same time I have hope they will knock both of these movies out the park and breathe some life into the DCEU.
