There were rumors abound for a long time that Shazam would somehow be a separate entity for the DC Extended Universe, but we never really had any confirmation either way until now that is.
Speaking with EW, Shazam director Peter Safran was asked if Shazam himself could show up in any future Justice League sequels.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see Shazam play a role in the DCU, he exists in that world.”
We also know from the recent photos the outlet released that Superman returning was on a newspaper clipping on one of the boy’s bedroom walls. Shazam star Zachary Levi also told the outlet about what he thought when driving past the billboards for Justice League last year.
“I would lose my s— if that happened, I would lose all of the s—s. I remember thinking, ‘If I get this and if this movie does well enough and if Justice League does well enough and they make another Justice League … maybe I’ll be on that next poster with all those guys’.”
Whether DC and WB will greenlight another Justice League after the very poor box office performance of the first movie, remains to be seen? I could see it happen a bit farther down the line once they start to have some successful and profitable movies for their main characters. If Aquaman and Wonder Woman 1984 are a success, then Matt Reeves’ The Batman and a possible Man of Steel 2, it could give the studio the confidence to bring these characters back together again. What they would need is a much better script than the one Justice League had, that movie was such a Frankenstein’s monster of a movie, it would be hard to do worse in all honesty.
Are you glad that the DCEU is pushing on and that Shazam along with Aquaman is now confirmed as being a DCEU movie? Sound off in the usual place below.
