Shepherd | Russell Owen On Bringing His Long Time Ghost Story To Life [Exclusive]

Shepherd

This weekend is the release of the new horror/thriller feature film from Saban Films, Shepherd. Here we will journey with Eric Black, a widower that is haunted by the recent death of his wife. His solution to his trauma is to take on the job as a shepherd on a remote island. But here he is overwhelmed by visions and the solitude that come with the island and his pain. He just might be losing his mind.

Shephard comes from the mind of writer and director Russell Owen. He has a passion for ghost stories, like this one that was first drafted in 2005 Being that he grew up in Wales, this film is inspired by several Welsh ghost stories from his upbringing. This includes the Smalls Lighthouse story. If it seems familiar that is because it was also the inspiration behind Robert Eggers’ recent film, The Lighthouse. Which coincidently was filming at the same time as this one.

Through the years, his script would evolve and go through many drafts. As he grew and changed so did his story. It went on to include the important theme of losing friends to depression. Something that is very common in our society.
