Back in 2009 Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law starred in Sherlock Holmes that brought in $524 million at the box office globally. Then two years later it’s sequel Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows topped that total making $545.4 million at the box office globally. It has been just about a decade since this the firs film of this franchise and a lot of people were looking forward to the third installment that was slated for December 25th, 2020. Unfortunately now we are going to have to wait another year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that they film has been pushed back to December 22nd, 2021. A set back that further delays the production of a film that had been stuck in development for years. The first two films were directed by Guy Ritchie, who at the moment is not expected to return to wrap up the trilogy. Downey and Law were both expected back in their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson from a script by Chris Brancato.
Currently both actors are busy with their work in the Marvel Cinematic film’s Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. Downey also finishing production on The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle and an HBO reboot of Perry Mason. Currently Sherlock Holmes 3 has the production team of Joel Silver, Susan Downey and Lionel Wigram. It is being produced by a partnership of Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.
