Simon Kinberg’s directorial debut, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, may have been delayed so that scenes could be reshot, but it doesn’t sound like Kinberg is wanting for work. According to a new report from Deadline, Kinberg is on board to direct a new film called 355. The flick will be helmed by Kinberg, and will be a large-scale espionage film with an enviable cast.
Joining this grounded, edgy spy thriller are Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Fan Bingbing, and Lupita Nyong’o. From the sound of it, this film will be competing in the same space where movies like The Bourne Identity, Misson: Impossible, and James Bond work their magic.
If this is a film that’s looking to make a statement that women can be badass spies too, then this is a pretty solid cast to be working with. Jessica Chastain really hit it big with grounded thriller movies like The Hurt Locker, Lupita Nyong’o is coming off of Black Panther, Marion Cotillard is basically a spy incarnate, and Penelope Cruz is pretty much amazing in everything she’s in.
As of right now, this film isn’t with a studio but is a package that Kinberg and his actresses are looking to pitch at Cannes next week. It seems like a solid idea for a film, and with the cast and director, I don’t see this NOT getting picked up.
