The latest Barside Buzz claims that a director has been found for Simon Kinberg’s Star Wars trilogy and the first film could begin filming by 2027. Kinberg’s trilogy was revealed whilst Kathleen Kennedy was still in charge, but since then there has been no real news. In fact there’s been little news on any film outside of Starfighter which drops in 2027.
Recently there was some potential evidence that the Rey sequel kicking off the New Jedi Order era was still in development alongside Dave Filoni’s MandoVerse film. However, it’s possible that the Rey Sequel is no longer happening and we move straight into Kinberg’s take (which is rumored to at least feature Rey). It’s all very unclear for now.
Knight Edge Media’s Caleb Williams says he’s heard the first of this Kinberg trilogy could be moving much quicker than any of us expected.

Now how accurate Williams ends up being remains to be seen for Star Wars. If we don’t hear any news on this film for another year then maybe it was inaccurate. It can take that long to judge leakers.
My thoughts, are probably echoed by many of you…
Firstly, no one wants Lindelof even as writer, but there would have been riots ff he was also directing. Secondly, when we get this kind of report we normally get a directors name, but I guess you can only report what you are being told.
Thirdly, I would be wondering, is this director helming all three movies of the trilogy or just the first? I do wonder whether it may be time to get one director for all three. However, the most important aspect is having the same writer for all three in a trilogy, unlike Disney’s sequel trilogy.
Is this coming instead of the Rey Sequel, is this first film already a bit of a ‘what happened next to Rey and the Galaxy’? I think it’s tricky to say at all. The facts are this…
No one expected Kinberg’s trilogy till 2030ish, then we had a supposed production listing for a New Jedi Order film, which was previously the era that the Rey Sequel was supposed to begin, plus some rumors also for that film not being dead.
Right now, my guess is that the Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy helmed Rey Sequel is deader than Yoda’s first Goldfish and this ‘New Jedi Order’ may be a reference to Kinberg’s first film in the trilogy. Yet, it really is all smoke and mirrors until Dave Filoni decides to tell us what’s next.
