Slender Man Trailer: The Online Urban Myth Comes To Life

The online urban legend known as Slender Man now has his own feature film, and that film has had its first trailer release from the folks over at IGN. If you’ve managed to read this paragraph without noticing the trailer above, look up, and witness the terror that is Slender Man.

For those who are unaware, the Slender Man character got his start online in the late-2000s, with images sprung up of a long, lanky figure in a suit hanging out at places like school playgrounds. It wasn’t long before stories about this terrifying creature began to pop up to fill in the blanks of our imagination. There have been terrible movies about the legend, documentaries about the effects its had on the real world, but this is the first legit Hollywood film we’re getting.

So how did this trailer do? It’s hard to say. Like many horror films, there’s a lot being said by what isn’t being said. This film has pretty much no dialogue, and no real tells that this is a Slender Man film, other than the title. In fact, even the one or two shots of Slender Man we do see don’t quite resemble the character as we’ve seen him online. As such, there is very little indication of who we’re seeing until that title card pops up.

As such, this very much looks like a generic horror film. It doesn’t look bad, by any means, but I think they may have kept a few too many things close to the chest about the story, and as a result, it doesn’t stand out in any meaningful way.

But what do you think about this new trailer? Let us know your thoughts down below!
