Snowpiercer Gets Orphan Black Co-Creator As New Showrunner

TNT’s sci-fi series Snowpiercer seemed to be headed in the right direction. They had shot a pilot for a script based on the film of the same name from director Bong Joon-ho, and everyone involved seemed to like it. But late last month, showrunner Josh Friedman stepped down, citing creative differences with the network.

Now, Deadline is reporting that TNT has locked down Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson for the new series. Regarding this, TNT executive VP of original programming said:

“Graeme’s extensive background in the sci-fi genre coupled with his brilliant work behind Orphan Black made him the perfect choice for this series. He is the best conductor to navigate the thought-provoking and delicate themes of the series while bringing this frozen, futuristic world to life.”

The series takes place seven years after the world becomes frozen. The only survivors left travel on an ever-running train that’s been divided into several classes. The story chronicles the class warfare that takes place within. The original film starred Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton, and this new series stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs.
