It looks like the age of brevity in filmmaking is gone! Okay, well, it can probably be argued that it never really existed, but I do remember growing up that Hollywood had a tendency to really strip away a whole lotta stuff in adaptations, leaving the bare bone skeleton of the story. In the decades since then, we’ve gotten to the point where filmmakers are faithful to the story to a fault, with some going to extra lengths to pad the story with extra content.
In short, you never really know these days which approach is going to be used — especially if you have a Stephen King story, which can range from reasonable to “oh, my God, why is this thing still going?” But what about Doctor Sleep?

According to MovieWeb, the Shining sequel film’s runtime was listed on several official movie sites (though I was unable to find any), and had it listed as 2 hours and 32 minutes. While it’s not quite IT: Chapter Two in terms of length, that’s by no means a lean flick.
That being said, the source material isn’t exactly brief itself, running in at 531 pages long. It’s not ridiculously long, but one can understand why the movie would be as long as it is. Since I haven’t read the story myself, I can’t comment on whether or not this is a good thing, but what about you guys?
Have you had a chance to read Doctor Sleep, and given its story, do you think it justifies its runtime? Let us know down below!
