Sofia Carson On Making Songbird During The Pandemic [Exclusive Interview]

No doubt that 2020 has been a very difficult year for everyone. The main culprit of course is the current Pandemic that has led us here in California back into a second shut down. A lot of activities that we may have taken for granted are now things that we yearn for. Things like getting together with friends for dinner, going to the theater, conventions, sports events, and concerts, are for the moment memories of better days. No doubt that we will get through this and get back to our regular lives soon. For now, it’s about being patient and safe.

But what if it doesn’t go back to normal? What happens if this virus keeps mutating and things only get worse? Well believe it or not there is a sci-fi thriller feature film titled, Songbird, that takes us a few years into the future where that is the situation humanity finds themselves in.

In Songbird, we find Americans in year four of lockdown. Their viral treat COVID-23 has now mutated into something deadlier. Americans experiencing symptoms of the virus are taken by force from their homes to quarantine camps known as Q-Zones. In this dystopian landscape, there are those who are immune to the pathogen, like Niko, played by KJ Apa. Due to this, he is able to work as a courier. Despite being prohibited to, he is able to find love with Sara, played by Sofia Carson. But when Sara is thought to have become infected, Nico is in a race against time to try and save her from imprisonment.

What makes Songbird unique, is that it was made during the COVID-19 pandemic in Los Angeles. It was the first film to be made after the first stay-at-home order was lifted in California. Ahead of its release LRM Online had the opportunity to talk with the star of the film, Sofia Carson. During the conversation, we talk about the process of filming post lockdown and it’s challenges. We also talk about the themes of the film and her character’s family values. Be sure to check it out below!

STX‘s Songbird will be out on December 11th, 2020 on PVOD.
