Somehow Palpatine Has Returned – Again! In An Upcoming Project

Somehow Palpatine has returned. Yes, the most famous and expertly written line in Star Wars history /s, but it is relevant today. Palpatine himself, aka Ian McDiarmid made an appearance recently at the Imperial Commissary Collectors Convention. SWNN in attendance covered some comments from McDiarmid on his most famous of characters.

So here is what Papa Palps had to say.

“There’s a certain show coming soon set right around the time I may have considered to be very active. Whether or not you will see my physical body, I cannot comment on. But you will certainly feel my presence.”

Now, we can very much narrow this down to two possibilities. Either McDiarmid is talking about Obi-Wan Kenobi or Andor. Those are the only two upcoming shows set in the timeline that the Emperor was at the height of his power. The Acolyte is set before Palpatine/Sidious far as we know and every other project is after his death. His first death anyway let’s say?

Of the two, the most logical choice is Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, I personally think it’s Andor. I’m not saying we will get a physical appearance, but I’m sure there could be messages from Palpatine to his people across the Galaxy. I recall something like this happening in Rebels from time to time. Equally McDiarmid could be referring to both Kenobi and Andor?

It could be a simple as Vader speaking to his master over the interstellar phone in Kenobi and a view screen recorded message in Andor. However whilst there are some fans who don’t want to see McDiarmid back again, I think for obvious reasons, this is different to me. The Emperor was alive and well and the most powerful person in the Galaxy during both of these shows timelines. Ergo, to me this is a lot different than bringing the character back from the dead, the ill-advised move made in The Rise of Skywalker.

Somehow Palpatine has returned, again! But where? Is it Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi or both? Thoughts below as always.
