SOMM: Cup of Salvation

In the world history of wine, many can trace unique grapes from the Middle East in Northern Iran that is forbidden today. One family seeks to revive those ancient grapes in the neighboring country of Armenia into wine as documented in SOMM: Cup of Salvation from director Jason Wise.

SOMM: Cup of Salvation marks the fourth film of the SOMM series that followed SOMM, SOMM: Into the Bottle, and SOMM3 with its unique tales surrounding wine.

Here is the official synopsis of this new installment:

From the team that made the SOMM documentaries, Cup of Salvation is a sweeping film that follows a father and daughter as they set out to revive the ancient grapes of their homeland in Armenia and the forbidden vineyards of Iran.

To do so, they must breathe life into the post Soviet infrastructure of their country, harvest grapes during the war, and then market their wine globally.

From the battle-scarred Caucus Mountains to the clandestine vineyards hidden deep within the forbidden Iranian countryside, this film unveils the primal origins of our enduring passion for wine and how it continues to shape the very fabric of human existence.
