Sonic The Hedgehog Delayed Three Months For Character Redesign

Who says no one in Hollywood listens to fans? Sure, the industry may not give a damn about your petition to reshoot Star Wars: The Last Jedi or the final season of Game of Thrones, but it looks like, in at least one instance, they’re keeping an open mind. Not too long ago, Paramount dropped the trailer for their upcoming video game adaptation, Sonic the Hedgehog, and the world went bananas.

Upon first seeing the character’s design, many cried out in horror at the human teeth, smaller eyes, and more human-like body dimensions than ever before. It was creepy as all hell. There’s no getting around that fact. That s**t was super weird-looking, and I like to give the industry the benefit of the doubt whenever possible. Reacting to the outcry, director Jeff Fowler took to Twitter to reveal that they would be changing up the design, leaving us to wonder if it would still make its November 8 release date.

Today, we have an answer to that question. Fowler once again took to the social media platform to show off a new image, revealing February 14, 2020 as the new release date, along with the caption:

“Taking a little more time to make Sonic just right.”

I have to respect Fowler for this. When the reaction online was incredibly toxic, he handled it with a level-headed grace that not everyone would be able to. In addition to taking steps to fix the problem, he thanked fans for their input, really driving home how much they respect them.

While I’m still not sure I’ll be crazy about the movie based on that first trailer, I can respect the effort being put in to please the fans. But what do you think? Should they have gone in and made those changes? Let us know down below!
