You have to give credit to Paramount and filmmaker Jeff Fowler. When s**t hit the fan several months back after the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog hit, they could have told fans to go to hell and continued on with their original vision. They could have also taken the less aggressive approach of, “When you see it, you’ll actually understand why he’s designed that way.” But instead, they went back to the drawing board.
In a move that showed immense respect for fans and the property, they delayed the movie and redesigned the lead character from the ground-up. Based on the new trailer, it really shows. This is the live-action Sonic fans have been waiting for.

Below is the official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog:
“Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.”
Two things I like here. First is that Sonic is an alien, and second that they used the actual music from the game during the solo baseball section of the trailer for the briefest of moments.
While none of this guarantees that the movie is great, it’s at least clear the filmmakers and studio care about getting it right, which is a huge plus.
