Morbius is in the MCU, no it’s not, we just want you to think it is! What the hell is going on here? Well, first off we had the Morbius trailer which showed us that Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes was in the movie. So, this must be the MCU fans thought? Sony kinda dampened that with their statements though.
Then, yesterday we had Morbius star Tyrese Gibson say that Morbius was in the MCU when he spoke to ComicBook.com.
Asked if Morbius was in the MCU, the actor simply replied “yes.” When asked to confirm that the Avengers are in the same world as Morbius, Gibson followed up with a second “yes.”
However, after that story gained some traction, someone (Sony) contacted the outlet to let them know this was not the case. Gibson also said the movie would release this Fall, and S(omeone)ony have told the outlet that also was inaccurate. Morbius will keep the January 28, 2022 date according to the outlet.
Now the article does not say that Sony themselves contacted them. But who else could have, that they’d print a retraction from their own exclusive interview within 24 hours of publishing? If LRM printed a rumor and Sony contacted us to tell us it was false, we’d retract it. If another source told us this was false, I would have to go with the actor, surely?
I have an image in my head of Sony selling Morbius to the actors by telling them this was an MCU movie, only to pull a fast one. ” Wait, you told me this was the same world as the Avengers, are you saying it’s just us and Venom?” However, just because that amuses me, does not mean that’s how Sony sold the movie to Gibson.

I have been saying since Venom first went under cameras that I think I know Sony’s plan. I’ve always believed Sony will attempt to make movies that casual audiences will assume are in the MCU. Thus, generating more money for an inferior product. It’s classic Sony when it comes to their studio business. However, I am less sure of that now. With that theory, Tom Holland had to suddenly show up in a Sony movie without much of any explanation. Now with a new deal in place for at least one movie, and all the rumors surrounding the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, you wonder if there’s another plan here?
What if Sony are simply playing off their version of Marvel as a different Universe. That could be one of the previously created franchises, or a brand new one. If Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire really do return for No Way Home, there are many possibilities.
It’s tricky to work out what the heck is going on to be honest. However, what can say, is that Tyrese Gibson thinks Morbius is in the MCU. However, Morbius is not in the MCU after all.
Confused? I think we are supposed be at this point. Leave any thoughts below.
