Angel Studios’ Jim Caviezel-led film “SOUND OF FREEDOM” continues to make waves at the box office, defying the underwhelming performance of the summer movie lineup. The platform and studio, known for empowering filmmakers to crowdfund, create, and distribute films and TV series globally with the support of thousands of Angel investors, announced its July cumulative-to-date and second weekend results.
According to projections by Angel Studios, “SOUND OF FREEDOM” is set to generate over $85 million in total cumulative box office revenue through Sunday. The film had a strong second weekend in domestic theaters, raking in an impressive $27 million in box office draw.
Jared Geesey, the Senior Vice President of Global Distribution at Angel Studios, attributes the film’s success to its growing fan base and supporters. “While the entire summer movie box office lineup is underperforming, our small independent film continues to grow week over week. Driven by millions of fans and supporters, ‘SOUND OF FREEDOM’ has become a national—and soon international—movement for change,” said Geesey.

Brandon Purdie, the Head of Theatrical Distribution for Angel Studios, emphasized the exceptional achievement of “SOUND OF FREEDOM” in the summer blockbuster season. “There have only been 10 wide release movies in box office history that have had a 2nd weekend increase greater than 35% over their opening weekend. All of them did it at Christmas. Angel Studios is the only Studio to do this in the summer blockbuster season with ‘SOUND OF FREEDOM’,” added Purdie.

“SOUND OF FREEDOM” tells the inspiring true story of Tim Ballard, a former government agent who made the brave decision to quit his job and rescue a young girl from sex traffickers in the Colombian jungle. In a remarkable mission, Ballard saved a total of 123 people, including 55 children.
