Space Bandits Arrive From Millarworld and Netflix

Netflix invented the streaming pool all these imitators are wading through. Not that I don’t love some Hulu, and Amazon. Hell, I’m even trying out Pluto TV. It’s no surprise they are continuing to innovate with the latest content to their service. In their ongoing partnership with comic book writer Mark Millar we now have the following new development. The latest comic book from the collaboration will be Space Bandits. Millar describes Space Bandits as “a female ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ set in space with a massive and exciting cast of characters”.

But why aren’t there superheroes in tights? Millar has an answer for you

“In a world with a billion superhero properties and gloomy, rain-soaked dystopian sci-fi, there’s a gap in the market for sci-fi that’s upbeat and fun.”

There you have it.

You may recall Netflix acquired Mark and Lucy Millar’s Millarworld back in 2017. With multiple titles at their disposal it may be a some time before we see a range of comic book adaptations from the Millarworld portfolio. Who knows, maybe next will be a live action adaptation series based on Wanted. I’d be down, especially since the live action movie turned a very interesting concept about secret villainous societies into a quasi-rumination on fate.  In addition to the most recent pickup of Space Bandits, past Millarworld projects include Kick-Ass, Kingsman, Reborn, Empress, and Jupiter’s Legacy.

My familiarity with Reborn, Empress, and Jupiter’s Legacy is zero, so I should probably read more.
