Space Jam 2 Lands In California

Space Jam 2 is filming in the Golden State, THR reports. The sequel from beyond this world is calling Los Angeles home base for production. But why California when there are so many locales that offer better production incentives? New York, Alabama, Mississippi, and even New Mexico all offer better incentives to lure filmmakers to set up shop in their state. Well, The California Film Commission selected Space Jam 2, along with 14 other projects to take part in the state’s incentives program. This is certainly good news to the folks who rely on hustling from one production gig to the next. Not to mention all the business that can use the uptick in money that comes from the extra money a production crew spends near the production site on props, equipment, and craft services.

The Warner Bros’ sequel has long been in a state of gestation. The original was released way back on November 15, 1996. Directed by Joe Pytka, and starring Michael Jordan in a film that straddled the lines of reality presenting The Looney Toons teaming up with the six-time NBA champ to take down a cosmic assault from the Monstars. Though no synopsis has been revealed for the sequel, it is sure to feature some state of the art mixture of live action and cartoon characters.

One thing for sure is that this sequels soundtrack has some big shoes to fill. The original Space Jam soundtrack was certified 6 times platinum and featured the awe-inspiring song “I Believe I Can Fly” by R.Kelly which earned the R&B artist two Grammys. Space Jam 2 is being produced by Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler, and will star three-time NBA winning champion, Lebron James.

Do you happen to live in California? If so, are you hoping to catch some behind the scenes glimpses into the production when it begins?
