Some interesting Barside Buzz today with rumors of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Punisher Special Presentation villains. This Spider-Man story popped up a couple days ago or so. Two reasons I didn’t cover it, one I was waiting to see what the scoopers/trades made of it, for reasons I’ll get into below. Two, I ended up sick yesterday, or I’d have covered it then. . 

I’m still somewhat sceptical on this one, but we shall see? According to a rumor doing the rounds from someone at a recent event. The villains of Spider-Man: Brand New Day are Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone.

In a now deleted Instagram post, Chris Higashi claimed to have been at an event called Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products in Vegas. He shared images and some of them do seem to match some information that came after the post, such as Conan O’Brien having a role in Toy Story 5. 

Anyway, Higashi posted an image of what appeared to be art of Tom Holland’s new suit for the film. He also said the three villains seen in early artwork were the three mentioned above. Now, Higashi is not a scooper, and this post took over 12 hours before anyone caught on. Additionally, the post was only removed after the story blew up.

However, let’s also talk about the fact that no one else has reported anything about this event seemingly held in Las Vegas. No trades were there, no one else that posts online, no scoopers, nothing. Or else they can’t comment about what they saw? So what the hell was it and why was he there?

Since then we have MTTSH coming out to claim that Michael Mando (Scorpion) is returning for Brand New Day. That could be just a fabrication to seemingly fall in with the news, or it may be genuine?  

However, let’s also remember that reliable insiders had hinted at Mister Negative. Plus there was casting calls for a supposedly female secondary villain. That does not match up with what Higashi posted. I’m not coming down on either side here folks, I’m just presenting rumors from credible sources and letting you make up your own minds. No scoopers I know of save MTTSH have made any counter claims or tried to back this report up, and no trade news, at time of writing. Maybe they were all just dead wrong previously?

I guess the question is, are you excited about Spider-Man: Brand New Day IF the villains are Scorpion, Boomerang and Tombstone?

Punisher Special Presentation

Just a small one here as Daniel RPK says in his Patreon that Marvel are casting for a female villain for the upcoming Punisher SP. No details on role other than gender. Is it possible this was mixed up previously with casting for Spider-Man? Again, this Buzz business is not a precise industry folks. No one has a 100% hit rate, because studios change their minds.
