Never count your chickens before they hatch, as the old saying goes. Of course, we’re all guilty of it on occasion. But in the film industry, this is especially true — and even in the film journalism field, that is triply true. Believe it or not, most of the news that hits are not official announcements from the studio, even those from the trusted trades.
With that in mind, I point to Mr. Jake Gyllenhaal, a man who was rumored to be starring as Mysterio in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home. While it does sound like talks are indeed happening, and that they are likely to proceed as planned, with him taking on a role in the film, it’s still not confirmed, as Kevin Feige revealed to ComicBook.com. He is not confirmed to be playing Mysterio or actually take any part in the film just yet.

But don’t lament just yet. Yes, there are very few announcements that hit the trades that are official, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t reliable. Unless something crazy happens, I would personally be surprised if Gyllenhaal didn’t end up in the film. Marvel Studios certainly has the weight behind it to get someone of his caliber, and it seems to be a matter of crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s.
How would you feel if Gyllenhaal didn’t officially sign on for Spider-Man: Far From Home, or if he did sign on…but there was no Mysterio? Let us know all your thoughts in the comments down below!
