Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Sequel And Spin-Off In Development

There is nothing inherently surprising about a sequel or spin-off being in development. Hell, Hollywood does it all the time — oftentimes with properties fans don’t want to see more of. However, more often than not, it’s after an audience has already voted with their box office dollar, and more often than not, it’s usually one film at a time.

Such is not the case with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. the film is still a few weeks away from its release on December 14, but apparently, Sony has enough confidence in it to at least begin development on both a sequel, Variety reports, one that will focus on continuing Miles Morales’ story. The idea to continue with his story makes sense, as, after introducing him to audiences with the safety net of Peter Parker, he can now go off on his own adventures without breaking audiences’ expectations. Amy Pascal is set to produce and it’s believed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse‘s Avi Arad, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller will also return as producers.

But that ain’t all they’re working on. Apparently, they’re looking into the world of spin-offs, and one that seems to be gaining momentum is a Spider-Women movie, which could focus on three generations of women who had the webslinging abilities. Given that Spider-Gwen played a role in Into the Spider-Verse, it seems like a good bet she’ll be involved, but no concrete decisions have been made.

This decision was made in advance of the film’s release, as stated above, but buzz for this movie is through the roof — at least for fans who understand what the movie is. We certainly hope the less-enthusiastic comic book movie fans will agree.
