Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Star Jake Johnson On What Makes His Peter Parker Different (Exclusive)

We have seen Peter Parker on the big and small screen more times than anyone can possibly count at this point. From Sam Raimi’s Peter Parker to Andrew Garfield’s, Tom Holland’s, and the myriad of animated incarnations, there have been a ridiculous number of times he’s been realized for different audiences. And yet, in terms of the mainstream, there really hasn’t been a take that sees a true veteran Peter many, many years after he first donned the suit.

In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, we’ll finally get a chance to see that very side of the character comic book fans have been waiting to see. It was the version of the character we were deprived of in Captain America: Civil War in spite of the source material (though I don’t think many are complaining about Tom Holland), and it’s finally made its way into cinema screens.

But what is it about this new take on the character that makes it truly unique? LRM‘s own Gig Patta had a chance to speak with star Jake Johnson, who takes on the role of Peter Parker in the film, and here’s what he had to say:

“Phil Lord said he wanted it to be Peter past his peak on a downtrodden. It’s a sad Peter who’s forgotten how great he is at Spider-Man, and needs to remember that he’s Spider-Man…It’s a very human Peter. It’s what happens after you’ve been a superhero for a long time.”

Sounds like a pretty cool take on the character, and as you know, this film sees him team up with a young and spritely Miles Morales, who will undoubtedly be the one who reminds him just how great being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man can be.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hits theaters on December 14, 2018!
