Spider-Man: Is Far From Home ACTUALLY Introducing The Multiverse?

We are at an interesting time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Avengers: Endgame has really blown the lid off the entire universe at-large, and with Spider-Man: Far From Home, we’ll actually be seeing just how much things have changed as a result. We saw our first glimpses of this in the new trailer for the movie, with the big takeaway being the introduction of the multiverse.

In the trailer, we meet Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, a man who claims to be from a different world. Apparently, Thanos’ snap ripped a hole in space, blah blah blah, comic book science, and now we have otherworldly Elementals invading our own world. But is this really what’s happening? Fans of the comic know that Beck is a villain and a liar, so we can’t help but wonder if he’s being truthful and if the multiverse is going to be a real thing or not.

Speaking with Fandango, Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts was asked point blank if they were introducing the multiverse.

“Well, I mean, yeah. We had to look at it in terms of the scope of what happened at the end of Endgame. Seeing all the crazy things that they did and all the questions that raises. So we’re definitely trying to answer one of the big ones — alternate timelines. So many possibilities opened up at the end of Endgame, and Peter Parker is one of the few people on the ground dealing with them.”

Of course, this doesn’t answer the question of whether or not Beck is telling the truth. For all we know, the multiverse can be real, and he’s just taking advantage of it to showboat as a hero or some other nefarious goal. Given how far Marvel Studios is willing to stray from the source material, it’s very difficult to tell where they’ll go.

What do you think of Watts’ comments? Do you think we’re actually dealing with a multiverse, or will it be revealed as one big lie? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
