Spider-Man May Well Be Leaving The MCU – But The Tom Holland And Robert Downey Jr. Bromance Continues

What If...? will feature Spider-Man

I guess in a case of life imitating art, Robert Downey Jr. seems to have become a close personal friend and mentor to Spider-Man star Tom Holland. Clearly echoing the relationship between their MCU characters as presented in the movies, though, now over after the character of Tony Stark was killed and….. Well, the whole Sony/Disney situation.

Fans have been waiting to see if Tom Holland would come out and say anything about the impending dissolution of his MCU relationship, however, the young star has remained quiet so far. There were reports he had unfollowed Sony on social media, but as yet I have not seen any evidence that he actually did do this. Holland’s dad has taken to social media to declare #SaveSpider-Man, yet the question remains, what are we supposed to be saving Spider-Man from exactly?

Holland has finally posted something on Instagram, but instead of being anything to do with the movie business, this post was a picture of he and RDJ together after what appears to be a little day out hiking. Check the post below with the funny caption “We did it, Mr. Stark!”

I’ve already spent some time this morning discussing the massive Sony/Disney story with Joseph ‘Jammer’ Medina and Kyle Malone on today’s LRMornings, and I think it’s the third day in a row that Jammer and Kyle have been focussed on this topic. At the end of the day as fans, we all hope that a deal can somehow be arranged, because we enjoy seeing Holland’s Spidey in the MCU. At the same time, I think the emotion is overpowering the logic in many fans minds with several half-hearted digs at Sony appearing. For me, until we know specifics, we have to understand that Sony must do what works best for them regarding probably their biggest movie IP.

For now, we still have hope, and if that fails, then we still have the MCU and whatever Sony decide to do with their IP, let’s just hope they really have learned some lessons from Marvel Studios in the last few years? At least no matter what happens, it seems like the RDJ and Holland bromance will continue off-screen.

What do you make of Holland’s post, are you sick of talking about Sony and Disney already? Share what you got in the usual spot below as always.
