Spider-Man: Miles Morales Sneak Peek Video Confirms It Is A Standalone Game

Spider-Man: Miles Morales was a game announced last Thursday during the PlayStation 5 reveal event. However, its reveal was met with a bit of confusion. The event itself seemed to show it off as its own thing, but comments from Sony revealed it was actually an expansion of the original game. However, those comments were quickly contested by insiders, stating Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be its own thing. Sure, it would be smaller, but it would be standalone.

In case you didn’t know who to side with, how about siding with the developers? PlayStation just released a new featurette, which showed off some of the devs on the game discussing how important Spider-Man: Miles Morales is to them. The video hilariously starts off with what I feel like is an attempt to undercut any confusion surrounding what the game actually is.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone game,” creative director Brian Horton said. “And it’s the next essential adventure in the Spider-Man universe.”

So, yes. Let the debate end here. This is a standalone game featuring Miles Morales. As previously reported, it doesn’t sound like this will be a particularly long adventure (probably sub-10-mins), but it’s a complete one nonetheless. But if you were worried about this feeling EXACTLY like the original game, fret not.

In the video, the devs state that gamers felt like they were playing a brand-new Spider-Man.

“We wanted to make sure his traversal was unique, his combat was unique,”  senior animator James Ham said. “And we also wanted to make sure Miles was his own Spider-Man.”

This means there are plenty of new abilities and stylistic flairs you can expect. He moves differently and feels different. They go on to state the gameplay takes advantage of the new PlayStation 5 DualSense controller.
