Spider-Verse Producers Developing Handful Of Live-Action Shows Using Sony’s Marvel Characters

If you thought Venom and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse marked the end of Sony’s ambition to utilize the Marvel characters they own, you’re sadly mistaken. Like any good studio, they’re working hard to find new ways to leverage the content they have ownership of, and there are few better ways to do that than to entrust the producers of the amazing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

But what kind of plan does the duo have in mind? Well, we know this past April that they signed an overall deal with Sony, so we know there’s something percolating…but what? Speaking with Deadline, Chris Miller gave us an idea of what to expect.

“We are developing a handful of live-action shows using Sony’s Marvel characters, of which there are like 900 characters. We’re figuring out a way to develop the shows so that each are their own unique experience but are also related.”

Okay, so like most people, I think my mind goes to something similar to what The Defenders did for Netflix and what Disney is doing with their Hulu animated shows. But is that the case?

“We’ve been talking to a lot of potential teammates for trying to do something not like anything else that’s been done on television,” Miller continued. “It’ll be a little while before it all comes together and is on the air, but I think it is going to be something really special.”

As far as where these new shows could land, Miller said:

“Hopefully we’ll know in the next few months where it’ll be and what the schedule will be.”
