(Spoiler) Set To Appear In Season 3 Of Supergirl

By clicking on this article, you waive all rights to be upset over the spoiler news Bleeding Cool is reporting will occur in the third season of Supergirl. And it’s pretty big. Supergirl has been the first DC show from Greg Berlanti that actually used major characters from the DC Universe. The other shows have utilized lesser know characters but to great affect, giving those characters more exposure to casual audiences.

In season 2 of Supergirl, Superman appeared. While it turned out to be a guest appearance, the arrival of Superman on the show was well received by fans. Season 3 will see the appearance of one of Superman’s most notorious villains. That character?

General Zod.

That's right. Now kneel.

That’s right. Now kneel.

Played by Terence Stamp in the first two Superman movies and Michael Shannon in Man of Steel, General Zod is second only to Lex Luthor in the eyes of casual fans in the pantheon of evil doers that Superman has faced over the years. Producers for the show have cast Mark Gibbon as Zod. Gibbon is a Canadian actor who has a history of bit parts in movies as well as being active with voice over work. He has a history with The CW DC shows, having had a bit part in Arrow in 2013. This would be his first major starring role.

While it’s great the DC television shows are utilizing major characters from the DC canon, I am disappointed they’re using Zod on Supergirl. While Kara Danvers has a history with her cousin from Krypton that cannot be ignored, relying upon Superman and his cast of rogues reminds the casual viewer that what they’re essentially watching is a watered down version of Superman. The show needed to form its own identity before her famous cousin made a visit to National City. I get that switching networks, the show needed to do something big to attract viewers to their new home and the actor playing Clark Kent did a fine job in the role. I simply wish they had held off on introducing him.

So what do you think? Are you excited to see General Zod in season 3 of Supergirl? What are your thoughts on the show so far? How much should Supergirl be dependent upon her famous cousin? Sound off in the comments section below.
