The Rambo movies, overall I guess they are not particularly great movies, save perhaps the first one, yet they represent a fundamental part of my childhood. First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part 2 were huge for me as a kid, I had them on VHS and practically wore them out. Okay, I guess the second movie doesn’t hold up as well all these years later as the first movie, but I was young and Rambo was cool.
Even my youthful self was disappointed in the mess that was Rambo 3, but I really enjoyed John Rambo as a smaller scale finale for the character. There were rumors of a fifth Rambo movie for a long time that never seemed to get anywhere until Stallone told fans he was finally writing a script for the movie.

Rambo V has finally gone under the cameras and Stallone has shared the first couple of images of himself as John Rambo in the movie on Instagram, and he is sporting an unusual look. Check it out below.

As you can see, you would be forgiven for thinking this was a Walker: Texas Ranger reboot instead of a Rambo sequel. It’s certainly not the look I expected to see from this character. When we last left John J. Rambo he had finally come back home to the USA after spending many, many years in Asia. John Rambo had not been back home as far as we know since Colonel Trautman first recruited him for the Vietnam mission in the second movie.
So what has Rambo been up to since he came back home? It seems like the character has ditched his trademark red bandana and scruffy clothes for a more traditional set of attire. But other than that who knows, he almost looks like some kind of local Sheriff, but would John Rambo really have gone into law enforcement after the events of First Blood, perhaps not?
The look of John Rambo won’t determine whether this is a good or a bad movie, but if anything it has piqued my curiosity somewhat. I’m really excited to see John come full circle and deal with being back home once again. And if some punks from the US think they can come after Rambo, they better remember to bring one thing, a good supply of body bags!
Rambo V is due to hit theaters in Fall of 2019, lets us know what you think of the new look in the usual place below.
