We live in a wonderful time. Yes, for decades now, we’ve seen a lot of the big superheroes get their due in movie theaters, but nowadays, the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Captain Marvel, Suicide Squad, and Nightwing either already have their own movies or are set to get their own soon. We’ve become so permeated with these films that studios are starting to think outside the box for their next big budget properties. While we’ve had a good number of relatively obscure heroes hit the big screen, there are still plenty who are due for their own films.
One hero that Marvel godfather Stan Lee would like to see lead his own feature is that of the Silver Surfer, as he revealed in an interview with Syfy — especially after the character was given a bit of a disservice in the film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
“He’s the one I want to see more. He’s the most philosophical of all the characters I’ve ever worked on. And I have an idea for my cameo in that one!”
As we approach Avengers: Infinity War, the Silver Surfer is definitely a character we wish had been able to exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as his philosophical nature is something that would have proved useful to the Avengers in their fight against Thanos.

Is a Silver Surfer film actually possible, though? As of right now, the rights to that character lies with Fox, and will continued to lie with Fox until they’re unable to make more Fantastic Four movies. There have been rumors in the past that Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will usher in the characters from that group, but as of right now, there is no evidence to support that claim.
For now we’ll just have to wait and see if Fox has more plans up their sleeve for the Silver Surfer and Fantastic Four, or if they hope to strike some deal with Marvel Studios in the near future.
