Star Wars And Avatar Films Will Alternate Each Year Starting In 2021

As we reported earlier today, Disney has released their full slate of films for the next few years, and the slate includes plenty of Fox films in addition to their core Disney properties. Of course, there was a whole slew of Pixar movies, Marvel movies, and Disney animated film movies on the slate, but we can’t forget about the other two big behemoths set to have many movies along the way.

I’m talking about Star Wars and Avatar. The latter franchise is one that was set to have its first sequel hit in December of 2020, but its future was a bit of a question since the acquisition. Sure, we knew it was happening, but as far as when, we were unsure (even though it did have dates pre-acquisition). Another big question mark was Star Wars. Yes, Star Wars is still a big deal, but as Solo revealed, it wasn’t bulletproof. It was then that Lucasfilm realized that part of the joy of Star Wars was the anticipation, and made their intentions clear to pump the breaks a bit.

The results can be seen in the new slate they shared with us. In it, we see Avatar 2 has been delayed a year to December 2021, with there being a new movie every two years (instead of every year like originally planned). It will also alternate every other December with a Star Wars film, with the first one expected to hit in 2022 of December. While it’s not clear which films for the franchise will be hitting, it seems like a good bet that Weiss and Benioff’s trilogy is what will be hitting then.

Take a look at the alternating schedule down below.

12/17/21 – Avatar 2
12/16/22 – Star Wars
12/22/23 – Avatar 3
12/20/24 – Star wars
12/19/25 – Avatar 4
12/18/26 – Star Wars
12/17/27 – Avatar 5
