Star Wars: Carrie Fisher’s Brother Says They Had ‘A Lot Of Minutes Of Footage’ Of Her To Use In Episode IX

Even two years after Carrie Fisher’s death, her passing has left an incalculable impact on fandom, and that’s not even taking into account the changes it may have caused for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX. At first, fans weren’t really sure how Lucasfilm would finish out the Sequel Trilogy of films without her, but more recently, it was revealed the studio would be utilized unused footage to bring her to life one last time.

This is probably the best way they could have done this, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit unsure. While it’s great we’ll get to see more Carrie Fisher, did they really have enough footage to pull from that could make sense in the context of whatever story they have? That was the ultimate question. The last thing I would want was this jury-rigging of scenes to have a negative impact on the final film of the trilogy.

Now, however, in a recent interview with Good Morning America, Fisher’s brother Todd Fisher teased a good amount of footage to be used:

“There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes. This is unused, new content that could be woven into the story-line. That’s what’s going to give everybody such a great kick. It’s going to look like it was meant to be.”

So, from the looks of it, they aren’t really wanting for footage to use of her. This is fantastic to hear, as it presumably gives the filmmakers plenty of options, though I’m sure they would have written completely around the footage they have available.

But what does the future hold for Leia herself? We can only wait and see…
