Goodbye, Star Wars Celebration 2020.
I’m sure this will hit Disney and Star Wars fans hard. In spite of the countless conventions being canceled due to COVID-19, I know many were still looking forward to the light at the end of the tunnel. That light was Star Wars Celebration. As all the other shows tumbled, Star Wars‘ official con remained steadfast and strong. It was the stake in the ground many of us weren’t sure Disney would pull out.
Our own insiders indicated that Celebration was the one event Disney wanted to keep. Why, you ask? Because they have major announcements to make. What announcements? Well, we’ll get to that in future pieces from us — one of which you can check out later today. For now, we have some sad news for you all. Star Wars Celebration has been officially canceled.
The news came from Lucasfilm itself.

“At Star Wars Celebration,” the official release stated, “the health and safety of our fans, attendees, exhibitors, guests and staff is always our number one priority. Due to the global impact of the COVID-19 virus and in speaking with local and state authorities on the latest public health guidelines related to indoor conventions, we have made the decision to cancel Star Wars Celebration for 2020.”
The next Star Wars Celebration you can expect to attend will be from August 18 to 21 in 2022.
This probably isn’t a consolation, but know Disney didn’t make this decision lightly. As mentioned above, they have a lot of great news they wanted to share at this year’s Star Wars Celebration. We already shared one big piece of news they were attempting to lock down last month. But that Hayden Christensen news is just the tip of the iceberg.
