Previously-Leaked Star Wars: Squadrons Game Gets Official Reveal Trailer!

Star Wars: Squadrons gets an official reveal. What do you think?

Last week, the official Xbox website kinda screwed up and leaked a huge reveal. After years, gamers would finally be able to return to the cockpit of an X-Wing. That’s right. Rogue Squadron fans rejoice, because a new dogfighting game is on the way. And it’ll be here sooner than you’d expect. The game is set to hit on October 2 of this year to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. What’s more is that it will come at the low, low price of $39.99. Good news is that it’s cheaper than a normal game. Bad news is that it likely means the content is fairly limited.

That being said, according to IGN, it will still feature both a single-player and multiplayer mode. And if you’re really stuck on fighting against (or with) your friends, fret not, as it will feature cross-play across ALL platforms.

Check out the reveal trailer for the game down below!

Star Wars: Squadrons’ Single-Player

Perhaps most interesting is the fact that the game’s story will take place after the Battle of Endor. I’m assuming this means the skirmishes will take place between the Rebellion and the last factions of the Empire. The game will have the player alternating between two customizable pilots, but in addition to brand-new characters, there will be cameos as well.

Throughout the course of the game, we will see both sides of the conflict. One once side you have the former Rebellion — New Republic’s Vanguard Squadron. On the other side, you have the “shattered” Galactic Empire’s Titan Squadron.

“Through the collaboration of the teams at Motive and Lucasfilm, we’ve been able to create a high-fidelity starfighter experience with an authentic storyline that invites Star Wars fans to explore never-before-seen corners of the galaxy in their own ship,” Ian Frazier, creative director at Motive said in a press release. “We’re excited to show all this in action this week at EA Play Live.”

Star Wars: Squadrons’ Multiplayer

And, of course, we also have the multiplayer mode to discuss. After all, what would a dogfighting game be without multiplayer? To begin with (because you never know what they’ll add), the game will feature 5v5 battles with two modes. One mode is Fleet Battles, which will give each team the task to destroy the other’s flagship. The other is Dogfights, where the goal is to destroy all ships on the opposing side.

Apparently, squadron composition will be important. Additionally, it is confirmed that all upgrades — both cosmetic and gameplay-affecting — will be earned through playing the game. Does this mean that microtransactions will not be included? It sure sounds like it, but we’ll see if that remains true.

This week’s EA Play Live will see first Star Wars: Squadrons gameplay details on June 18 at 4 PM ET.
