It probably won’t be that long now till we have a proper title for Star Wars: Episode 9, as both the title and perhaps a small teaser trailer are expected to show up at Star Wars Celebration which begins on April 11. However, that wait is too long for some fans and ever an anon we hear about guessed titles and supposed leaked titles all over the place.

The latest claim comes from an old scoop site which rarely seems to provide scoops any longer. AICN was one of the first geek web sites in the early days of the internet and at times was one of the places to go for spoiler news about the Star Wars prequel trilogy. But that was a long time ago and they are probably most famous for declaring the title to The Phantom Menace would actually be The Creeping Fear, and whilst in the same wheelhouse as the real title, it was of course inaccurate.

Well, AICN is claiming one of their sources called Fantomcat has revealed Episode 9‘s title to them. They claim Fantomcat is a reliable source, we have no way to verify this, but here is what they are saying. Star Wars: Episode 9 will be title Skywalkers.

Now, I’ll say up front that I don’t buy this in any way, it feels wrong on so many levels I don’t know where to begin. For a start, all Star Wars films have always had a title that feels like an old Saturday morning serial, which of course was an inspiration for the original movies. So far you could argue that all the Star Wars titles have fallen into this naming convention. However, Skywalkers would absolutely destroy that trend.  I have a feeling both Lucasfilm and JJ Abrams are knowledgeable enough about Star Wars to realize this immediately.

Not only that, but the title references a specific person or group of people, and whilst the saga does revolve around the Skywalker’s it doesn’t really tell us anything about this movie, many of the films could have had the title Skywalkers and perhaps been an even better fit.

No, sorry, I just don’t buy this for myself, but it’s up to you to make your own mind up, I’m just sharing the story because I could be wrong, But, I’ll be extremely surprised if that title appears anywhere at Star Wars Celebration.
