Last week, Disney put out a press release, and in it, they revealed that they would be bringing General Leia back to life in Star Wars: Episode IX utilizing unused footage from J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, there was no mention of whether or not they’d be using any footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which was especially interesting since that possibility was mentioned in the past.

Star Wars News Net spoke with ABC News‘ Clayton Sandell, and in their interview, the Sandell told them that Carrie Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, revealed that they would be using footage from both movies. Here is the quote from the podcast.

“I talked to Todd Fisher today about all of this and he has been talking with J. J. Abrams about it. I asked him, because the press release only said The Force Awakens so I asked about The Last Jedi, and they are also using unused footage from The Last Jedi. I asked him how many minutes of footage they had from it and he said ‘I can’t tell you that!’”

“He (Todd Fisher) said there were big surprises coming – big surprises with this movie, this performance, and the unused footage – and said – this one is really for the fans.”

“But they apparently have a number of unused minutes from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.”

“Todd and the whole family are very excited and wanted it to happen.”

This makes a lot of sense to me. While I’m sure they have some footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I can’t imagine it’d be enough to create a solid presence. Now, my only concern is whether or not they’ll be able to reconcile how Leia is dressed in each entry, as she sports different outfits in Awakens and Jedi.
