I’m slightly surprised with this Star Wars news as the Rey Sequel gets a new writer, so I guess it’s still happening folks. The report is from THR who say George Nolfi (Ocean’s 12) is the latest writer to be given the task of developing this story for director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

‘George Nolfi, known for his screenplay work on movies such as The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has been tapped to write New Jedi Order, the Daisy Ridley-centric Star Wars movie.’

I will point out, far as we know, that’s (New Jedi Order) still not the name of the film. Instead we believe it simply denotes the era which the film signals the start of.

The rest of the article is information we already know, but here you go.

<em>’The hiring signals continued faith in the project, which was announced to great fanfare almost two years ago at Star Wars Celebration in London, but has seen several high-profile writers fall into the trash compactor.’

‘Documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is due to make her narrative feature debut with the project. With Ridley due to reprise the role of lightsaber-wielding Rey Skywalker, the character she played Disney’s sequel trilogy. The new story is said to take place 15 years after the events seen in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. Ridley’s character now a mentor to a new crop of Jedis.’

The report gives no insight as to when this movie may begin production. Like the previous writers, Nolfi will need some writing time. Luckily for Lucasfilm, it seems Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie can fill the gap. Levy’s film will begin shooting later this year. One assumes Lucasfilm would be hoping to get this one off the ground by next year at least.

What do you think as the Rey Sequel gets a new writer in George Nolfi? Are you as surprised as me this hasn’t morphed into one of the other announced films, such as Kinberg’s trilogy? Thoughts below.
