Despite some recent Barside Buzz saying otherwise, the Star Wars Rey sequel will not film in April 24′ after all. The original source for this April buzz came from the Production List outlet. Just have to be clear and say that unlike Production Weekly, the List site isn’t always accurate and sometimes seem to pick dates out of thin air. The debunking information comes from SWNN, who I trust as a top tier source.
The main thing going for SWNN is the fact they do not post rumors and spoilers. That is not their business model and tend to rely on more solid or official news. That being said they do have a lot of good sources at Lucasfilm, they just don’t share everything they hear. Here is what SWNN had to say about this rumor.
The rumor that production on the Daisy Ridley-led #StarWars film is set to begin in April 2024 is incorrect, according to a source we contacted. The script is reportedly not ready yet, and due to the delays caused by the strike, we don't expect filming to start before the summer. pic.twitter.com/SkGsTnPxkI

So you will see a few outlets who have ran this tory in the last 24 hours. I did not cover this yesterday for the precise reason I simply didn’t trust the source of information. But I will cover this side of the story as I do trust SWNN are correct on this. In other words, the Star Wars Rey sequel will probably film in 2024, but it won’t be as early as April.

I guess we will find out come April. However, like SWNN says, I’m thinking June or July at the earliest for a 2026 release.
There are some rumors we can be a bit more confident of regarding this movie. Though, realistically we know very little outside of the official information released on this film. We have a very solid rumor of how the age of Rey was changed dramatically from Lindelof’s original story pitch. We have also heard, (I think reliably) that there are currently two versions of the script being developed by new writer Stephen Knight. One if John Boyega agrees to return as Finn, and one if he does not.
Though to be fair that hurdle may have been resolved already and we just haven’t heard which way yet. Our rumor yesterday from a good source for this movie previously says some announcement could come soon. If the script is 90% and the movie is filming next Summertime then casting will have taken place or be happening now.
What do you think of this news that the Star Wars Rey sequel will not film in April 24′ after all? Thoughts below as always.
